1974 Thing Transmisson and Engine Swap

Two years ago I jacked up my 1974 Thing and installed BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires to give it an offroad look. I wasn't pleased with the rough ride and the large diameter tires messed up my gear ratio. Top speed dropped from 65 mph to 55 mph because of the large diameter tires.

First I removed the poor tired 1600 dual port motor. I plan to rebuild it for use some where else. This motor came from a bug called "The Flying Squirrel". It is in very bad shape, I ran a leak down compression test and each cylinder could barely muster 35 lbs. Still the engine ran and didn't smoke so I feel it is a good candidate for rings and valve job.
